Slovenia Achieves €2 Billion Trade Surplus in Jan–Aug 2025, Driven by Strong Non-EU Exports

Slovenia recorded a €2 billion trade surplus in the first eight months of 2025, a sharp reversal from the €2.7 billion trade deficit in the same period last year, according to the national statistical office (SURS).

Total exports grew by 22.3% year-on-year to €49.1 billion, while imports rose more moderately, by 9.4%, reaching €47.1 billion.

Notably, exports to non-EU countries surged by 45.7% to €28.3 billion, while imports from those markets grew by 18.7% to €25.7 billion. Trade with EU partners remained largely stable, with exports slightly up by 0.4% and imports unchanged.

In contrast, Slovenia ended 2024 with a trade deficit of €7.63 billion, highlighting the significance of this year’s turnaround for the country’s external balance.
